Representation

Women's Health, March/April 2013

Women are represented to be weight and image obsessed clones. All of the text surrouding the model are ways to loose weight and look like the model on the cover. The one on the bottom right, "10 OBESITY BUSTING MEALS" is particularly shocking as most people reading Women's Health will be at a healthy body weight.

The image used of Rachel Bilson entices women to buy the magazine, as many women need an inspiration; someone to admire and desire to be. The fact that you can see her stomach makes it more enticing for women, as many aspire to have a flat stomach and toned abs.

The cover is designed to make the public feel inferior, as the flat stomach and skinny thighs are hard to achieve on a healthy diet. Also, her tanned skin and full hair are other things that most women want to achieve, and again, making them feel inferior for not looking like the magazine cover.
